Hello, from Watlington!
Up about 7 am and down for breakfast about 8 am. Really lovely, as before. Ready to go to the Gatwick Express by 9. Checked out of our lovely hotel and they got
us a private car to take us to Victoria.
Not too much traffic and we followed the “red line” on the floor at the
station to get us directly to the train.
Not much room for luggage but we crammed it aboard and waited to take
off. Well, apparently the train driver (that
is, the engineer) hadn’t shown up!
Finally, about 10 minutes after the scheduled departure, it was decided
that everyone on the track 14 train should now go to track 17! Talk about a scrum! Wow, and with most people schlepping
luggage!

Once around Ely (lovely Cathedral, which we plan on visiting
on Monday) and in very short order, we were at Philippa and Dan’s wonderful new
house about 4 pm. It’s HUGE and on a good sized piece of
property, perfect for playing outside!
Really lovely, two floors, with lots of room for two growing boys. Leo is 6½ and Hugh is 3; they are really nice
children, and both incredibly well-spoken.
They are a lot of fun to be around!
I loved being able to read the boys a bedtime story, and Leo read two
books to Philippa, Hugh and me!

Dan was off from work yesterday and he and the boys had a
very full agenda of things to get accomplished, which they did. Philippa works part-time and got home about
6pm, and it was SO good to see her! We first
met Philippa when she was a single gal working and living in London, and to see
now this transition to their beautiful house and family was amazing. They all look so happy!
Dinner was an excellent pasta bake with garlic bread
(comfort food!) and homemade tiramisu for dessert – YUM! Unfortunately, we didn’t take any photos, but
we are going to the Imperial War Museum
at Duxford today to look at airplanes and I know Robert will take lots of
pictures! I hear there is a great
playground there, too! So, I think that
about wraps up Friday heading out of London for now!

Up about 6-ish am and were joined by the boys a bit
later. Such fun seeing their toys and my
heavens, do they have a lot of energy in the morning! Down about 7 to breakfast, and then Dan,
Robert and I took the hire car into King’s Lynn to see about repair for the
power outlet(s) in the car. Both R and
Dan think it’s probably only a fuse. Got
to Hyundai in a very short time, but the Hyundai service department was busy
until Monday. So … alternate plan. As it turns out, literally around the corner
from the dealership was a Europcar office!
Dan and R went in, and while they have no comparable car at the moment,
they are expecting returns to day, and we will pick a new car up on Monday
morning, on our way out of town.
Excellent! R assures me – and I
know he’s right – that we will be fine without a GPS, but when you’re really
used to having one to rely on, it does feel a bit strange without it.
Helped Philippa get preparations ready for dinner tonight
(make your own pizzas!) and started making sandwiches for our picnic
today. She has a really lovely kitchen,
and a huge fridge freezer. It’s a
Hisense, which I’m not sure has made it to the American market. I know they’re in Australia though, as one of
the tennis venues there is Hisense Arena! Now to find Duxford …
